A conscript, born in 2001, died on Thursday as a result of injuries sustained during an exercise, the Lithuanian Armed Forces have announced.
“Following the death of a soldier of compulsory military service on September 14 due to injuries sustained during a training exercise, the leadership of the Lithuanian Armed Forces expresses its deepest condolences to the soldier’s relatives and service comrades,” the statement reads.
The conscript was urgently evacuated to the hospital from the training ground where the exercise took place on September 12.
A pre-trial investigation has been opened by Military Police to establish the circumstances of the accident.
The exercise where the conscript was injured took place in the Švenčionys district, on the territory of the Pabradė training ground.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces do not provide any information on the injuries that caused the death of the conscript. More detailed information will be provided once the pre-trial investigation is completed.
